1. Do I need a partner?
Absolutely not! Everybody is welcome, whether you come along on your own, with a bunch of friends, or a partner. In fact, our classes are taught through a rotation system which means that every couple of minutes everybody has to rotate and dance with a different partner. This gives you the opportunity to meets lots of great people!
2. What should I wear?
There are no specific requirements with clothing except for comfort! As a general rule of thumb, it is best to wear clothing that allows you to move around with ease and makes you feel comfortable. Many people pop in to our classes straight after work and feel that their work attire is just fine. It is really up to you!
3. What type of shoes should I wear?
Once again, the most important factor is comfort. However, we do not recommend that you wear thongs or sandal type shoes. A smooth sole will aid your spins and turns and a supportive back for the ladies is a must. At a Beginner level, you shouldn’t worry too much about your footwear but once you start getting into your spins and dips at an Intermediate and Advanced level, a proper dance shoe will make all of the difference!
4. Where can I purchase dance shoes?
There are several dance stores in Adelaide where you can purchase proper dancing shoes:
www.jqdance.com.au
www.dancingshoes.com.au
www.vivazdance.com.au
All websites above are based in Sydney, Australia.
5. Do I need to book ahead?
At Latino Grooves, we offer both casual classes and structured 8 week courses. Our courses are only taught at the Dulwich Community Centre and do require you to book ahead. Our bookings system allows us to achieve an even ratio of men to women, which is extremely important in a partner dance such as Salsa.
Our classes at the Arkaba Hotel are casual which means that you don’t have to book ahead – simply turn up!
6. I have never danced before. Do I need to have experience to attend?
Absolutely not! Our ‘Salsa for Absolute Beginners’ classes are designed to introduce you to Salsa right from the very basics! We do not expect you to have any prior dance experience. We guarantee to have you dancing in no time at all, no matter whether you think you have two left feet. Just come along and give it a go!
7. I have taken some Salsa lessons before, what level should I start with?
If you are unsure about what level is right for you, give us a call and we will do our best to allocate you in the right class.
8. What are the age groups of the people who attend?
Our classes attract a lot of people from all walks of life and all different ages. You can expect to see people from the ages of 18 right up to 60 dancing up a storm!
9. How much do the classes cost and can I pay as I go?
Yes, you can pay as you go, even at our 8 week courses. The cost of a casual class is $15 or $12 concession, per lesson. If you are attending an 8 week course, you have the option of paying for the 8 weeks upfront at $110 per person. This upfront payment saves you $10 as well as time and effort as you don’t need to bring your money each and every week.
You are also able to purchase the classes in blocks of 10 or 20 through our Dance Class Passes. A block of 10 classes costs $120 or $100 concession and a block of 20 costs $220 (concession not available). These passes can be used at any of our three locations and do not have an expiry date. You simply hold on to them until you are ready to use them!
10. How long will it take me to become a good dancer?
Every body learns at a different rate but as the old saying goes, “practice makes perfect!” This is especially true in the case of dancing. The more effort you put into your classes, the more effortless your dancing will feel.
Many of our students have achieved optimal results through attending at least 2 classes per week and practicing their moves out socially at our parties and events at least twice a month. Many students have also reaped many benefits from private lessons with their instructor.
You will also find that there are many special workshops and boot camps held through out the year which are taught by special guest instructors from interstate or overseas. These are also an excellent opportunity to improve and learn new skills.
11. Do you offer private lessons?
Yes! If you prefer to learn in a one-on-one environment or need a little bit of extra help, enquire about private lessons! There is no better or faster way to improve your dancing skills. Your instructor will provide you with one-on-one attention which will allow you to learn at your own pace.
